I'm currently working on an amazing shard and one thing I've noticed. It doesn't seem to matter how frikking awesome our place is, people still stay on their lameo high-population shards. Now, I can understand it's important to be sociable, but y'know it's also important for larger shard to try and remain relevant. There are waaaay too many places where there is a pretty large and sustained population, but the owners do absolutely nothing to further their player-basis' fun or experience. The UO-community is slowly dying because of this and to be honest, there is no reason that is should be. This MMO is a golden egg of opportunity for customisation and development. There are no others where an owner and the developement can find such in-depth and complete control over the world you create.
So, if you'll excuse me. Let me explain how brilliant the place I work at is:
The Expanse - One of the best PVE shards around.
The world we are crafting, will blow you away. Already, we have an enviable level of custom content. Like crafting? We have almost everything you could ever want to do:
Pet dye making
Animal Taming, breeding and bioengineering
Like taming? We have a huge amount of creatures, some unique to the shard, which you can tame, train, level and breed. Add newskills like fire or poison breath, increase resists, increase attack power, Also, if you're incredibly lucky, you might even chance upon the Bioenginnering book whilst hunting in Exodus
Dungeons and Quests:
We are commited to adding new content. Thus far, we have created a halloween dungeon of horrors, with classic horror film bosses, There's hugely entertaining Monty Python and the Holy Grail Quest line. A rather expansive series of quests and dungeons set upon the theme of three Indianna Jones films. You will simply not find anything quite as impressive, anywhere else.
Rolling up to April-July, we are realising major projects huge dungeon expansion, a whole new and completely unique magic system based upon the Star Wars mythology. This means new classes of character, new dungeons to explore and truly massive complexes to investigate and attain quests from. On top of this, a new series of quests are in line which draw on the rich game history Ultima. Already there are custom monsters, a nostlagic nod to what was one of the most groundbreaking games series in the world. And there will be much, much more.
PVE - Events
You'll find that this occur with a fair amount of regularity. At least most of the public holidays are observed. And, just to be different, we add our own fun perspective too. Like for example, the re-invasion of Magincia. A live event, where the devastated town of Magincia was brought, anew back into existence, only to be gradually destroyed by a rampaging battle between demon and townsfolk once again. (Cheese demons, no less). Currently, the ghostly spectre of a battle that once was re-occurs over and over again. And the town lies in ruin. But it was truly a sight to behold.
