I hope I don't come across as a frat boy with this, but I've actually had connections with players on Madden NFL games. Usually it's through the development of a mediocre player to a great player, or the hard decisions that a GM or a coach as to make on a game-to-game basis. Yeah, I won't go into detail since most of the people here don't care about Madden. lol.

I'm a sap for a good, engaging, story. So I've gotten teary eyed many times while playing a game.
The effect is strongest in a game that I've played exclusively for awhile.
*Spoilers*
****
I remember in Mass Effect, I got to a point where Wrex was threatening to turn on my crew if the mission went forward, and I really liked Wrex, I always picked him and Garrus for my missions, and had up until that point sided with Wrex and his opinions and ideals. So as the tension built up and the shots were exchanged, I verbally yelled "No!"
KrazyKain mentioned the scene where you have to decide who to save, and that really didn't bother me at all, because I didn't like either of those characters.
Also, at the end of Call of Duty 4 I was shaken. Watching the guys that have had my back through the rest of the game killed, and then watching Captain Price slide me the gun, and then watch the soldiers fail to revive him, was gut wrenching.

Ever since I finished playing Ar Tonelico, I made a discovery. I actually found myself getting jealous of certain characters. but I also felt my heart go out to the Reyvateils.
