I never had the internet back when IRC was all there was, and i still don't ever use it for anything. I only ever used it when i played free L2 severs to find out why they were down or to get out of being banned for duping

Not really, I always ran into too many kids who would start out rping and degenerate into so- what are you wearing IRL? Now forum RP yeah. But chat not so much

I used to be CO of Deep Space Europa, an IRC simulation with the UCIP. Spent about 3.5 years there, started out as a cadet and worked my way up through the ranks. Retired as a Commodore. It was a lot of fun and a lot different than anything I'd ever done before. It's quite a challenge to maintain and participate in an IRC sim and still make the mission viable and most importantly, fun. A lot different than forum or email RPG's where one has time to think about what one wants to say or portray for that piece. In IRC, it's warp factor 9 all the time. Even on a space station.
![]() Ah, just re-reading my old bio makes me wax all nostalgic. Good times! |

I used to "play" the runescape idle rpg (IRC on Runehq.com) if you tried to do stuff you lost experience...no chatting, no attempting to complete quests, no trying to move, nothing, lol, made it to like level 40 (close to 200 idle hours) before I got bored of killing people i happend to walk into by chance.

IRC I'm still kind of new to in terms of RP'ing; at most I've done only a handful of pick up games of D&D and other 1-shot table top games. Forum RP'ing is a different beast entirely: used to co-GM a free for all RP community centered mostly in the old World of Darkness setting, but wound up running it very loose and free form to allow whatever the players wanted to be. Even managed to somehow run D&D style characters in it suprisingly very maturely. I've seen so many crossover-genre settings go awry; but this one managed to keep a cool style to it for over a year almost.
What I do have experience with in online chat based stuff is tabletop RPG's using OpenRPG as well as White-Wolf's online game chats and dice rollers. Now those were FUN. |
