New Comp Build
So In about a month I'll be returning home from Iraq and I will definitely be upgrading to a new rig. While I can say money is not an option there are certain limits to what I want to spend and if need be I will wait for the price of these parts to drop but probably not. I will have to see how impulsive I am when I return.
So check out what I want and if you can offer any suggestions, ideas or comments about what Im going to purchase feel free. Please don't throw in biased opinions on certain parts because your an Intel or AMD fan or even a Nvidia or ATI fan. You can be technical but not too technical .Take a look and tell me what you think. Honestly I've never built a PC from the ground up but I am familiar with replacing parts and such. But as this is going to be my first complete build is there anything that I am missing either not included or something I am missing completely. Like a cable or set screws or something, like if I go to a SLI setup I will need to buy a cable to do it and such. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks

You must be an ATI fan? I've always preferred nVidia over them. The software never crashed my system as much and games over-all just seemed to run smoother and with a higher FPS. We all have our preferences though, System looks premo that's for sure. Nice selection on the mobo and processor. I don't see any conflicts coming at you anytime soon. Enjoy the new PC and welcome back!

Get some cable ties and heatshrink wrap for cable management. Try and route your cables along the case frame for maximum airflow. If you're not dead-set on the case, then I'd recommend the Antec P180. I've been using it for my rig and I have nothing but praise for it. Great airflow and super-quiet with 5 120mm fans + HSF going full blast at 2000 RPM. You might also want to upgrade that heatsink to something like the Zalman 9500. Otherwise, you've picked out some top-notch components, sounds like you know what you're doing already.
My current rig is an AM2 4600x2 / nForce 590 with the 150 Raptor, 2 gigs of OCZ plat and an nVidia 7900GTX. I'm counting on the AM2 socket to pull through because the 4600 was a temporary solution as I needed a new rig immediately and Conroe hadn't come out yet. The E6600 is going to last you a while if you're up for overclocking it. Conroes can take a beating and still run cool even on air, so I'd recommend it. Good luck with your new system! |

I'll take a look at the parts your suggesting.
Is the Antec P180 a full tower? My only concern is that I've heard the 8800gtx is larger then normal and with a VGA cooler on it I wouldn't want to run into problems with space or it bumping into a fan/other cables. I'll yank some cable ties and heat shrink from work for cable management. I plan on cranking the 6600 up to at least 3.0 maybe 3.2-3.4 depending on full load temperature. The GTX is designed to run hot so Im hoping that it dosen't effect my overclocking capabilities with conroe. Thanks for the advice |

The WD Raptor isn't worth the price imo. Only way I'd go with a 10,000 rpm is get the 34gb boot my OS off it for a lil quicker speed (Which I actually do now). The speed in games is hardly even noticable. The best combo for drives would be. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136054 Load the OS onto the Raptor. If you have this set up your computer will run faster and have better performance but cost less and also have more space. Your call though. If you save some more money you might be able to make a jump on the processor to E6700 (I have it and love it). For the price its a good jump but the jump to the Core 2 Duo Extreme is a bit too much (like $500 from the E6700). nVidia is good for EA games, but if your a steam user get ATI. ATI 9/10 times out performs nVidia on steam based games (Medieval 2:TW,HL2,CS:S) and so on and so forth. My thoughts, working while typing this so my mind was wandering. Sorry if some of my thoughts are incomplete. |

Oh yeah forgot that the 8800 was massive, the p180 is only a mid tower. I'll look for a good full tower for ya.

I'm going to recommend this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119093 It's where thermaltake got their idea for their Armor and Kandalf cases. It's huge. This is the case I use and I love it, so much space on the inside to work with. |

Thanks for the tips and tidbits I'll look into those products you suggested.
I was looking at the 6700 for a while and depending how much the prices drop over the next month when i do order these parts I'll make my final decision. Well I plan on playing AoC (in The Eminence), darkfall if its ever released and some sort of MMOFPS in the near future so I'll stick with nvidia. Besides ATI's divx 10 card is going to be expensive when its released and the 8800 should drop in price so I may be able to get 2 of them. Others have stated that the raptor isn't worth it for a 10krpm drive. I'll do a bit more research in that department. Possibly Maxtor or seagate, never had any problems with them but I really want a 10krpm just for the fact that it enlarges my epeen and it prevents me from having to mess with raid 0 with two 7500's

Seagate is the way to go if you want to get a large HD. Least in my opinion.
