Homeworld-like game
Why hallo thar! Does anyone know of a Homeworld-like game, that runs on OS X?
Obviously it can't stand up to the story, but as long as the gameplay is really good I can let it slide. ![]() I don't really care if it's old or new. |

oh man... there was so many possibilities then you said "on OS X" tsk tsk
My friend will often comment on Eve online drawing comparisons to HW. But unfortunately it's a pay to play. |

Ugh, no, I mean a space-based 4D RTS.
One thing that would be incredibly awesome would be building a normal base like you would in any other RTS, but it's in space and 4D. I don't think anything like that is out there, however.

Well there is an awesome game out there called Sins of a Solar Empire that I've been playing that is essentially the MOO/MOO2 4X done up in a 3D RTS. Unfortunately, it's a Windows XP game.
http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com I'm not really up to speed with what peeps run for Windows dependencies on Mac, but I'm assuming if my former guild leader in WAR could run that on his Mac, there's bound to be a way for Sins to be able to play too? If you can find a dependable way to run it on the Mac OSX platform, definitely check out the demo. No story though; it's just scenarios and maps you load up and play. Gameplay totally makes up for it though. |

+1 Sins as above... but sadly it doesn't run native on OS-X. If you are running an Intel Mac it would be a worthwhile investment to get a version of Windows on there to game on. Otherwise here's a list of Mac games?

I boycott Microsoft products.
I could try Wine, but there are two problems. One, Wine doesn't work well on OS X. The project decided to move into a more GNU/Linux-dependent direction. Second, even though I could run Wine on my GNU/Linux box, it probably wouldn't run SoSE very well. Some people have gotten it to be classified as "Silver" after they apply a patch, but I would much rather have a way to be sure it will run "Platinum" -- which usually means native (except for Homeworld, yays!). @Thund3rball: Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

Do you actually like playing video games?
P.S. I'm officially boycotting your boycott by boycotting all Apple products from this day forth. Just because I'm in one of those moods. <3 P.P.S. Sins of a Solar Empire is a great game. I highly recommend it. It is one of the best Space-themed Strategy Games I have ever played. |
