Jkkiyomd.dll
Alright so i got in this laptop to "repair" and when it starts up it flashes JKKIYOMD.DLL module not found in an nonexistent directory and restarts the laptop (this is cyclical). Anyways not knowing what it is i research and found it to be a virus localized in mainly spain. Cool..so i do what every good techie should do and i try safemode to remove it. Awesome no antivirus software on the laptop. For some reason i try to install avast from my flash drive onto the comp through safemode (didn't work but i wanted to try and see [part of troubleshooting lulz]). I also tried the windows repair out of chance. Btw there is no backup drive or back cd for this laptop (silly people lulz).
I am at a stage where i can 1.Reformat and partition and reinstall windows vista (32-bit) or 2. Research some more pull out my vista book and try to do this the extraneously longer way. If you think you can help me out without having to reinstall please guide me (i haven't done hardcore virus removal in 2 years.)

Check the registry for the virus filename and remove any references to it.

Can you access Start->Run and enter "shutdown -a"? that might prevent the reboot.
Also, you could use a boot cd to search for the virus manually (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ for example). While booting you could restore the system to the last settings and see if it's removed... or via Windows Recovery load up an old Restore Point if there's one. http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.aspx this might help too. |

The bootcd will work, but another program that easily tackles vundo (8 letters.dll/exe) is combofix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix
Just download and run that baby in safemode, it's fast (under 15 minutes) and deletes some of the most hardcore viruses. Good luck. -Source 3 Years doing university tech support cleaning up systems with viruses, some specifically like this one. |

I've never dealt with combofix personally so cant comment on it, although i have used Hirens Boot CD on several occasions to good effect (http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd)
Also i've heard that the Winternals software is supposed to be good at this kinda stuff, but the only way to get it these days is via pirating off torrents/usenet etc (so no link lol). Good luck tho. |
