I have to admit I keep a bunch of old game ROMS on my hard-drive because when your just killing a minute or two between tasks, an old Atari VCS game like Yars Revenge is a perfect fit. And even if I did own a 2600, I wouldn't have room to keep it hooked up, I'd have to dig it and a TV set out, make room for them, play the game, then put everything away again. For a 10-15 minute game session it's easier to emulate. That's why when I hack Apple 2, I generally do so in emulator even though I have a functional Apple //e That you can see in my avatar photo. It's not out right now, because I don't have the room, and my iMac is good at pretending it's other stuff.
