Hunter Populations

Having recently re-kindled my interest in Monster Hunter, I've been trying to get ahold of some of the newer versions, so multiplayer would be an option. So I've been wondering about 2 things, mainly:

1: How does multiplayer function on the PSP? Do all the members of a party have to sit next to eachother, or is internet play possible?

2: Which of the PSP-games have the largest player-base? I've checked the games directory, but I'm quessing that people playing them might have a better idea of the real circumstances.

For the first question the natural mode is Ad-hoc but if you use a tunneling software like XLink kai or Ad hoc party for the PS3

Personally if you have a ps3 use Ad-hoc party as it's easier to set up than Xlink is.

As for the second the newer games tend to have the highest population so in this case MH:Unite would be the case
