Charge of the Men in Plaid (a City of Heroes poem)
Based on The Charge of the Light Brigade, by Alfred Tennyson.
Half a zone, half a zone, Half a zone onward, All in the ruins of Death Strode the six heroes. "Forward, the Men in Plaid! Charge for the Clocks!" he said: Into the ruins of Death Strode the six heroes. "Forward, the Men in Plaid!" Was there a man dismayed? Not tho' the heroes knew Security Chief had blundered: Theirs was not to make reply, Theirs was not to reason why, Theirs was but to do and die: Into the ruins of Death Strode the six heroes. Trolls to the right of them, Council to the left of them, Clockwork in front of them Volleyed and thunder'd; Storm'd at with rocks and shell, Boldly they strode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell, Strode the six heroes. Flashed all their weapons bare, Scrapped as they turned in air, Blasting the Clockwork there, Charging an army, while All the world wondered: Plunging in lightning strokes, Through the Clock line they broke; Tesla and Assembler Reeled from the heroes' stroke Shattered and sundered. Then they strode back, but not-- Not the six heroes. Council to the right of them, Trolls to the left of them, Clockwork in back of them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with rocks and shell, While 'kick and mentor fell, They that fought so well, Came thro' the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of the six heroes. When can their glory fade? Oh, the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honor the charge they made! Honor the Men in Plaid, Noble Six Heroes! If you play City of Heroes, there's a pretty good chance you recognize exactly what mission this is about. I'm hoping to see similar work from other CoX players. |
