Considering Buying a DS
Pros? Cons? Recommendations?

I was big into the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color, played the GBA a bit but since haven't played a handheld. Thinking about getting back into it, especially for Zelda etc..

I wouldn't buy a DS. A PSP is by far superior, in any way. Sure, it doesn't have two screens, but why would you need two screens afterall? The PSP has the ability to play movies, music, pictures & more, plus most of the games look better. But it doesn't have Zelda.

I have one of the original 'Grown up' DS's. There fine for most of your gaming needs if your not interested in having an 'All in one device'. DS lite's are, to be fair, designed for children... which is fine unless you have long fingers (its all ergonomics).

Personally, I enjoy my DS. I have plenty of games that I can use when travelling (Flights for example, are far less tedious), and its got a good selection of fun 'pick up' games.

True its not a 'Hardcore' device like a PSP. After all, it wont play movies on it (After all, its a cinema expereience watching a film on a screen 2" across you know) and it wont play MP3's (unless you buy the addon. Guess you'll have to stick with whatever your using for that) and it wont display pictures (so that porn collection stays put young man/woman/persons of the internet).

But it does have Zelda, and you can still play all those old GBA games too, allowing you access too hundreds more games (or a dozen if thats all you have anyway). True, the 3D potential aint all that great, but your playing on a tiny screen... do you want super dooper 3D immerive graphics on a display more suited for a camcorder?

Forget hype, look at the practicalities and what its can do rather than what it can't.

I pre-ordered a DSi last week. I've strayed away from the handhelds for a while too. Now I'm really looking forward to it arriving, not only to help make the gym less boring , but also to play the Nintendo games I like without having to play them on a Wii.

I have both PSP and DS. And the PSP isn't superior. The PSP can build great graphics, but has also got a lot of loadtimes and because this all it uses more energie, so the batteries go faster to empty. And nice it can play movies, music, pictures and more... but I never just it... but I payed for it.

DS hasn't got the great graphics as the PSP, but it has no loadtimes and imho a lot more great games. You can play longer with the DS than the PSP before it needs to reload. Besides that you can play GBA games on it.

NDS is great. Lots of fun and interesting games. It's for fun games. PSP I only really like Patapon, crisis core. But other than that it's really all NDS imo. The last 2 years I've been amazed by the quality of some of the games released. I'm a lot more interested in some of the games being devved for the NDS right now than for the consoles (Ghibli game, scriblenauts).
