Free, Open Source Games
Hello there. I've realized that a lot of really great games I play on a regular basis, most people don't realize they even exist. So, here's a list of some games:
RTS Warzone 2100 Really, really good game. Windows, OS X, Linux netPanzer Okay, not the best out there, but not the worst either. Good for if you only have a few minutes to play. Windows, OS X, Linux Bos Wars Windows, Linux Spring Engine Several different games for the same engine. Windows, OS X, LinuxHomeworld SDL Allows you to run the original Homeworld on Mac and GNU/Linux. OLinuxS X, Linux Glest I couldn't get into it, but a lot of people love it. A mixture of FPS and RTS. Windows, OS X (unofficial port), Linux BZFlag Immensly frustrating if your new, but still fun. Windows, OS X, Linux FreeDOOM If this needs to be explained to you, you're not worthy of the title "gamer." Windows, OS X, Linux Nexuiz Windows, OS X, Linux Alien Arena Windows, OS X, Linux Warsow Windows, OS X, Linux Cube 2: Sauerbraten Windows, OS X, Linux Assault Cube A standalone mod of Cube 2, made to be more realistic. Windows, OS X, Linux Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Windows, OS X, Linux World of Padman Cartoon Shooter. Windows, OS X, Linux No Gravity I'm putting it here, as it's a spaceship FPS. Windows, OS X, Linux. There is also a version of it for the PSP. OpenArena Windows, OS X, Linux Battle Just Started Tank shooter. Windows, Linux Blob Wars II: Blob And Conquer This one is 3D. Windows, Linux Transfusion Not for the faint of stomach. WIndows, Linux Smoking Guns Wild West Shooter. Windows, Linux Blood Frontier Despite it's name, not that bloody. Manages to fit sci-fi, robots, and zombies into an FPS. Windows, OS X, Linux RPG Manaworld 2D MMORPG. Windows, OS X, Linux NetHack Of course this had to make the list. Windows, OS X, LinuxAngband Not the official site, but a much better one. Windows, OS X, Linux Ur-Quan Masters A port of the open sourced Star Control 2. UQM is one of the best RPGs ever, period. Windows, OS X, Linux. VegaStrike Large, space-based RPG. Great fun. Windows, OS X, Linux. FreeDroid Windows. Most GNU/Linux distros have it in their repository, however. KQ Like the original Final Fantasy. Windows, OS X, Linux PlaneShift MMORPG. Windows, OS X, Linux Cultivation This calls itself a strategy game, but to me it's a lot more like an RPG. Windows, OS X, Linux Empty Clip Windows, Linux. OS X can compile. Ardentryst Windows. OS X and Linux may run with Python and Pygame. SCOURGE Windows, OS X, Linux Nazghul Original Final Fantasy-like. Windows, Linux Hero of Allacrost Windows, OS X. Linux can easily compile. GoblinHack Windows, Linux Arcade / Classic SuperTux Like Mario, but with a penguin. Windows, OS X, Linux. Armagetron Advanced Tron. Windows, OS X, Linux Chromium BSU Windows. Most GNU/Linux distros have it in their repository, however. Crack Attack Like Tetris Attack. Windows, OS X, Linux Critical Mass Galaga-like. Windows, OS X, Linux. Penguin Command Missile Command, yays! Windows, OS X, Linux Project: Starfighter Windows, OS X, Linux Blob Wars I Windows, OS X, Linux Secret Mario Chronicles Windows, Linux Froggix Frogger clone. Windows, OS X, Linux Vertigo Windows, Linux Driving VDrift Windows, OS X, Linux SuperTux Kart Mario Kart. Windows, OS X, Linux Stormbaan Coureur Obstacle Course Simulator. Windows, OS X, Linux Extreme Tux Racer Not exactly driving, as you have a penguin instead of a car. Windows, OS X, Linux TORCS Windows, OS X, Linux Mania Drive Windows, OS X, Linux Ultimate Stunts Windows, OS X, Linux Racer: The Real Deal Windows, OS X, Linux Orbit Hopper Racing, in space. Windows, Linux Puzzle Fish Fillets - Next Generation Fish Fillets clone. Windows, OS X, Linux. Frozen Bubble One of the most popular FOSS games out there. Warning: addictive. Windows, OS X, Linux Pingus Think "Lemmings." Windows, OS X (unofficial), Linux Neverball Windows, OS X, Linux Board / Card FreeAwaleWindows, OS X, Linux Pioneers Settlers of Catan-like. Windows, OS X, Linux Dream Chess Windows, OS X, Linux Vulcan Star Trek Chess! OS X and Linux can easily compile it. Tycoon / City Sim Spice Trade OS X and Linux can compile it. LinCity SimCity! Windows, Linux. OS X can compile it. LinCity NG A more advanced LinCity. Windows, OS X (unofficial), Linux SimuTrans Windows, OS X, Linux Rail World Railroad Sim, using Satellite imagery for maps. Java-based package. OpenCity Windows, OS X (unofficial), Linux OpenTTD Allows you to run Transport Tycoon Deluxe, as long as you have some original files, available here. Windows, OS X, Linux Other Netrek I would definitely recommend this game. Not really sure what to classify it as, though. Windows, OS X, Linux Atomic Tanks Windows, OS X, Linux Battle Tanks Windows, OS X, Linux Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge Windows, OS X, Linux Frets on Fire Think "Guitar Hero." Windows, OS X, Linux Scorched 3D Scorched Earth-like. The best bit about this game is that you have an option to have, instead of a tank, Bender. He throws beer bottles, instead of shooting. Windows, OS X, Linux Danger of the Deep WWII submarine simulator. Windows, OS X (old), Linux Crown and Cutlass Pirates!-like game. Windows, Linux. OS X coming soon. Wormux Like Worms. Windows, OS X, Linux Savage: The Battle for Newerth Windows, OS X, Linux HedgeWars Like Worms, but with hedgehogs, so better. Windows, Linux DosBox Not really a game, but you can use it to run old DOS games, so I figure I'll put it here anyway. Windows, OS X, Linux Celestia Space simulation. Windows, OS X, Linux Toribash Violent fight simulation. Windows, OS X, Linux Most of these are OSS, but all are free. The platform area is for binaries. Pretty much all of these can be compiled on OS X or Linux. I'll put more in here as I think of them. Any thoughts, criticisms, etc?

The Mana World should be .Org, not .Com
Further Discoveries: Alien Arena link is messed up with extra http in there. Should be http://icculus.org/alienarena/rpa/aquire.html Not trying to rag, just pointing out ![]() Also FreeSynd? AWESOME. I'm gonna have to give that a spin. Otherwise, awesome list and thanks for posting! |

Nice list. All the games I play on my PC are included so props for that
I'd never noticed that there were that many decent games for Linux (my chosen platform) till they were put in a list...

I've updated the list.
Sadly, the FOSS area of tycoons seems to be neglected.

Big list of games I don't even know or heard of before I read your post. I quess I never looked at games on Linux but, all I know that there's shortage of games on apple computers. Honestly I don't know how on earth you got so many games for Linux.
