There are several different Linux Distros that you can use on the PS3.
YDL was 1 of the 1st but people have Fedora, Ubuntu, Gentoo working on the PS3 as well. The cell processor is basically a PPC processor so anything made to work under a PPC version of Linux will run on your PS3. So you can web browse with Firefox and check email and most of what you can do with a normal PC. There are a few restrictions since they don't have direct access to all the PS3 hardware yet but it works well. Also when you partition your PS3 HD you can keep 10gb for PS3 games and saves and PS Store downloads or you can give 10GB of space to linux. I suggest you give the 10GB partition to the Linux OS as you can setup linux to use a USB HD for extra space/storage. |

if possible mabe instead of loading it directly onto your Ps3's harddrive perhaps you could get an external one and load the OS on to it (not sure if that's possible it just seems like a good idea)
