POLL: Duke Nukem For(n)ever, when?
So DNF has been in production for as long as some forum readers have likely been alive.
And yet Guns and Rose's Chinese Democracy was released, and My Bloody Valintine played some live shows and is planning on releasing a CD. I thought those things would never happen too. So when do you think that DNF will be released? This year? Next year? For your grandchildren? Just prior to the rapture? Never? |

I don't think a finished version will ever be released. Once they run out of money I think they might release whatever they have, but I think it would most likely be a buggy unfinished mess.

I think it will come as a package with Darkfall.

I'm thinking 2009.
Of course I've been thinking "next year" for a while now, adding my conjecture to the small amounts of released facts in official 3DR texts addressing the subject. Duke Nukem 3D was my favourite game for a long time, so I hope DNF will be an appropriate sequel. No reason to assume it'll be a "buggy unfinished mess", because after all that time they're not suddenly going to race it out of the door unfinished. |

Do they even have a publisher at this point? Would anyone actually release it now?

Didn't we already do that joke?
Personally, I think we'll see it on a modified Doom 3 engine (or whatever engine ID have cooked up for their next big game). 2010, because I'll play the optometrist this time round, and I do believe that ID want it released, just to get rid of the jokes. |

They switched from the id's Quake 2 engine to 3DR's Unreal Engine (2-ish), which meant they had to start from scratch with a lot of the game's aspects.
(It also means id is very unlikely to have anything to do with DNF anymore.) After making significant changes to the UE, no way they're changing back and going through that again. |

I don't think they will race it out the door, but if it ever does come out I think it will be because they ran out of money and instead of just scraping the entire project they will just release whatever they have as is.

I remember getting excited for the release of this game back in 96'. Now I could care less.
