Obama Wins
It's 1:11AM. Obama wins. Dems have the House, and are four seats away from the Senate 60/40 line.
Discuss. ![]() How do you feel your life personally will change over the next four years in general, and how you expect the outcome of this election to effect that? |

I'm in Europe, and we hoped for Obama, but to be frank, I don't think I'll feel much different a year or four from now.

I think it's nice to believe in the ideal that one person can change the course of a nation. I also think it will take a lot of hard work to put ourselves back in the shape we'd all like to be in.
Ideals are well and good as long as there are hard working people behind the scenes executing plans and making it happen. Here's hoping a good team is assembled that can do that. Good luck to the new first family. The thing I always notice is how much the Presidency seems to age people. I'm sure at times it feels like the world is on your shoulders, and it really kinda is. |

I'm pretty happy that he won, during the next 4 years when he's busy with fixing other people's mistakes (Or atleast trying to) America will realize that theft is wrong, even if it is the government doing it, and decide that Obama won't be elected again. Hopefully.
Perhaps you will have some better options in the next election. I also doubt that this election will have any major effect on me, perhaps if Obama ends up being completely incompetent and screws up the economy even more, but that doesn't seem likely. Still, it is possible, I doubt anyone expected a war like the one in Iraq when Bush was elected.

happy he won, not happy about the senate I like checks and balances, some might say this is why nothing ever gets done and that might be true but it is also the reason a lot of stupid stuff doesn't get quickly passed because everyone is being a yes man for their party and not thinking about what the people who elected them really want... anyway they didn't get the 60/40 split so that makes me feel better I look forward to see if Obama can stand up against his own party when they attempt to pass legistation that he does not or he thinks the people do not agree with, all in all I am happy with last night minus all the local taxes people passed because they read the first sentance of the bill and didn't realize it would raise taxes to create more houses for criminals.....oooooooogggggggghhhhhhh oh well looks like I will have to roll up my shelves more and make even more gold

Of course we're talking about the president of a pretty large country here, a country whose influence on Europe cannot be underestimated. If Obama makes some extreme (not necessarily in the negative way) decisions, we Europeans may end up feeling more of it than we think. |

One party rule = no checks and balances. We'll see how it goes I guess...
I was once again disgusted by the number of unopposed local officials on my ballot. |

Regarding the unopposed local officials, I totally understand. My home town in Ohio has all republicans in office and democrats hardly ever run against them. This year the democratic party ran someone for almost every office and even still were womped on by the republicans. Kind of depressing :/ |

There are still checks and balances. He can't just do anything he wants. There's still the Courts too.

As tibbon mentioned, the Courts will play a big role as well. However, Obama will be able to do more now than if the Senate was mostly Republican.
I think it's interesting that so many people have such high "the world is going to change" hopes for one man. While I agree that Obama is good for the US, I think a lot of people's hopes are going to be crushed as they discover he isn't god. I was listening to some news radio here and apparently some people in Kenya feel that with Obama is office, they will get roads built in Kenya. (I'm sorry that I can't source that). He's president of the US... not the world. |
