In my relationship, I had to get my boyfriend into some of the games i like. He played mostly halo,morrowind and things like that. But I have succcessfully gotten him addicted to world of warcraft. He didn't know if he'd like it at first but now were both in the outlands leveling and he digs it alot.

Soon as we buy her a computer me and her are hitting WoW (or Darkfall, depends if the guild needs me or whichever happens first).

If someone is a non-gamer you have to give them games that are simple and immediate. Keep in mind that most "gamers" have 20+ years experience doing this. You don't start someone off enjoying sports by throwing them in as a manager of an NFL football team. You start throwing a ball with them.

Also keep in mind that it can't be a game that they have to sit there any really hone skills at, it must be fun and immediate. They aren't going to go home and grind to a lvl 70 tank just to play with you.

My girlfriend doesn't game really BUT she can enjoy Rockband 2, or maybe even about 5 minutes of GTA:IV. Trying to get her into something with difficult game mechanics like WoW, Oblivion or Halo is just silly.

My wife plays Guitar Hero and Rock Band with me. She likes games that are not hard, not about killing, and that we can play together. We even played the 3D Mini golf but I think she only liked it because she kicked my butt all the time.
Don't push your games on them. Try something that you yourself may not like but you know they will. One of my buddies told me last night that he finally got his wife to play the Xbox 360 by getting her to play Karaoke Revolution American Idol edition. He figures the next step will be Rock Band.
