Cooperative Games
Co-Op games, perhaps the most overlooked aspect of video games, even today. Growing up, it seemed even though it was rare to find a co-op game then too, that there were more 2d co-op games then, compared to 3d co-op games now.
My question is what co-op games do you remember playing, the most of, and have you ever specifically looked for a co-op game (whether to play with a friends, or family). Here are mine, off the top of my head: NES: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game I remember fighting "The Fly" and thinking "why does he just fly higher and use range attacks? Then we couldn't touch him." Lol. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project I liked this one, alot more then the second one, I believe it was because of the turtles' specials. Contra The one hit KO, was hardcore, when I first started playing, but quickly became fun. SNES: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie I know, I know...but with the lack of co-op games, I had little choice, and transformations weren't half bad. Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Not really co-op, but I took what I could get, I'd play Tails, and randomly attack enemies (when I was actually on screen with Sonic). Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Sonic and Knuckles (Lock on) Tails could actually fly Sonic around! I felt so included ![]() Streets of Rage 1 Among the best co-op games for the Genesis, I'm surprised it didn't get more hype, or they didn't continue it on a future generation console. Streets of Rage 2 Better then the first, cleaner, and included unique special attacks. Streets of Rage 3 Worse graphics then the second one, but far more interesting. ---------- So what opinions do you have on co-op games and which ones have you played? Not partial to them? Prefer competitive ones? Don't really care? Feel free to share. |

I have been dying to find a really good Coop Game.
The ones that I have played are these: Nam Duke Nukem 3D Doom Loved those ones. Then I got more recent games as well: Deadly Dozen Pacific Assault Ghost Recon and tons of Mods Serious Sam Doom 3 Quake 2 I tend to avoid the games that are built soley for coop (like Battlefield) as I prefer games that have a story line. I only play Battlefield type games when I can meet up with friends online. If anyone knows of anymore PC coop games (and not Left4Dead) I would like to hear them. |

There's plenty of co-op RTS games. I have enjoyed Red Alert 3 a lot. But there are lots of others. Here's a few I know of...
Dawn of War 2 (co-op campaign) RA3 (co-op campaign) AOE II (no co-op campaign but is very good co-op in MP) For FPS you can get a MOD for HL2 and play through the campaign in co-op. |

Sadly I cannot play much RTS games because my bro isn't into them and my laptop cannot keep up with the requirements.
As for HL2. Really don't fancy buying a game that my brother has just so that I can get it onto a Steam account. |

we should all keep an eye out on The scourge project it's a fully story based game which is entirely built around co-operative play.

Halo --- on the original Xbox. I know it's hardly retro, but playing that game co-op with my son and daughters was priceless!
I always seemed to steer away from co-op games in the past --- arcade play and early consoles. But, recently (on the Xbox 360), I've enjoyed quite a few co-op games that I probably wouldn't have enjoyed playing solo. Some examples: Halo 3 Rainbow Six: Vegas (& Vegas 2) Gears of War (& 2) Army of Two Left 4 Dead Too Human I've heard Halo Wars (a RTS) has great co-op play. |

Secret of Mana (first? only?) co-op RPG series (evermore)
a lot of old-school shooters and platformers were co-op: twinbee, ice climber, altered beast, golden axe, un squadron, guardian heroes, power stone, captain commando, x-men, final fight, double dragon, etc. in some games like ice climbers and double dragon, you could hurt or kill each other, too. ;p |
