Maybe You Shouldn't Shell Out For Quad Cores Yet
I thought this new article about Quads and Core 2 Duo systems was pretty good. I'm going Core 2 Duo for the next two years at least.

Really, I thought the additional $1,000 price tag was warning enough.

For many people today, I think a dual core with a higher clock speed is the better bet then a quad core at a lower speed.

That being said, programmers are getting alot better at multi-threading in truely parellel ways and I see 4+ cores becoming mainstream.

For a heavy home user, its pretty easy to pin 2 procs already. 2 box a game and you've done it. Throw in a VM or heavy web pages and you will definitely benefit from more then 2 cores.

As mult-core procs are becomming mainstream, other parts of the system are definitely showing their weaknesses. For example, while its pretty easy to get 4 CPU's busy, things like slow hard drives can really take away your ability to see the maximum benefit.
