My mom just went thru this with her old computer. She had a friend wipe the hard drive and then she donated it to the local veterans assoc. There are also bins/trucks in parking lots that can collect these types of donations.

I know for old games/consoles you can donate to Child's Play http://www.childsplaycharity.org/

There really should be a website to organize places to donate for each state.

it seems like the idea i have needs some bugs worked out. I will polish the idea up a little and hit you guys with it again....but it seems that there is NO good solution currently to this issue.

by the way i totally agree with getting people who can't afford computer access to them locally, that was an excellent point, it would be easier (cost wise), and more effective!

Didn't mean to sound like an uncaring ass in my little diatribe, but computers and internet service are pretty high on Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs i believe...when basic survival is sometimes hard to achieve in those places. I'm too realistic in real life, that's why i play games...lol

nice, well someone is already doing this idea and I guess they are doing it pretty well because they started it in Portland Oregon and now it has like 6 branchs nation wide. I am going to go volunteer myself as a system builder and donate me old computer check'm out http://www.freegeek.org/

They sent some computers or to central american children's settler...I didn't read the article but they look like they are using it well.
