Though I still haven't beaten it yet (PS1 graphics on a 40 inch tv is painful) I can say pretty confidently that IX was my favourite. The main character was one of the least broody and obnoxious I've seen in a Final Fantasy game.

13, I respected that they tried something different. Lightning was also a beast. But I'm glad they are willing to step on their fans toes to try out something completely new. To bad they listened to their fans in 13 2, haha have to make money I guess. Bad taste in my mouth when I hear fantasy fanboy.

I would say my fav FF is 7,even though people find it overrated, i still think its a great game but to me ever since after 10, the series in general has taken a plunge

I'm torn between Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy Tactics (the original playstation one). I found the mini-card game in FF8 seriously addicting and FFT just because combat required more thought than just picking which guy to attack.

FFVII isn't just the best FF but it's the greatest game of all time. My list is like this:
6. FFX
7. FFV
9. FFX-2

The rest

Hmmmm out of VI, VII and XII that I've played I really really love XII. One of the biggest draws is that it isn't insanely heartbreaking. I also really loved the subtle intertwining stories and massive explorable world.
But there's so many more I haven't played yet!
