As to ET and Pac-Man, yeah Atari did fail there, what's strange is that Ms. Pac-Man was pretty decent on the VCS. At least with Pac-Man, there was a game there, ET was IMO just Atari taking advantage of a popular name. They deserved all the fail they got. Also IIRC, that happened after their most talented programmers left to form Activision. So they may have been scraping the bottom of the barrel talent-wise.
