Multitasking: Are you playing games and...

If Im doing something else, then Im not playing the game. AFK gaming fails. Listening to music moast of the time though, wouldn't realy call that multi-tasking.

I don't think I CAN completely focus on just the game. Haha. 90% of the time I am listing to either the radio or my own downloaded music. Sure at first I will listen to game music but then it just bores me. Only time I really focus is in FPS competitions. I turn off my music, turn up in game sound, and turn up vent/ts. Thats the only time that I really give the same my full attention.

For MMO's I've muted Vent and listened to music on some first attempts at new content. Although I did that, that inst worse than one of my friends who just fell asleep while waiting for replacements to zone in. (I'm talking about WoW in particular.

Thats how it goes for me at least.

I'm often listening to my own music and I go to, sometimes extreme, lengths to get the actual game I am playing to play the music I want.

Some times this is easily done with Addons to control an mp3 folder, others it requires messing with the games own music folders.

The right piece of music can often further put you inside the game.

I will often chat with my husband while I'm gaming. Sometimes, I have to tab out so I can look up 'cog locations' while he plays GoW on Xbox! Being a crafter would get kinda quiet at times, so crafting to your own music is very helpful. Many times, I'd grab lunch or dinner or enjoy an alchololic beverage (or two or three..) while at the comupter too.

I know Ypa plays his guitar while he is in game. He is the only person uber enough to kick A** in PvP while playing his own music LIVE.

I rarely really focus on the game. That only happens when i am playing an intense single-player-game or doing some serious FPS where sound is important. I'm usually listening to music, surfing the web, chatting with friends or playing windows-games while i am waiting for something to happen. Well, of course the nerdy "eating in front of the pc" too.

I like to be fully immersed with the game if I can, but that mostly happens at night for me, as I have a 4 year old son..(who plays his own cute little games like a maniac.... wonder where he got that from? LOL).

In all games my guildies/friends know the fact that I need to keep jumping up and down to care for the little one, and they're very understanding about it... some are in the same shoes as well.

I try to fellow or group up when it seems I'll have enough time uniterrupted to complete the quests, without having a whole team waiting on me.

No wonder I love crafting in most of my games.... it's great to play while taking care of children.

I usually have the tv on, but it's just background noise - i can't follow a program or movie if I'm playing.

I wont be multitasking if I start playing a game, lets say for the first 2-3 weeks, I'll immerse myself completely, even playing lights down a little just to get the right feeling of the game. Then, if I like the games soundtrack, I wont be playing my songs, if the game needs my whole attention, I wont watch tv or check things out on the web. It all depends on the game in fact...

The more down time there is the more likely I am to be multitasking. Starts with the TV, works my way up to books and if I consider doing some work, I actually logoff and go do something else or go play something else

On the subject of in-game sound - I haven't played with any in-game sound for about four years now - ever since my daughter, a light sleeper if ever there was one - was born.

Headsets are out because - yes, I have to keep an ear out for her waking up Sometimes she goes back to sleep herself, sometimes she doesn't.

This'll probably change when she's, oh, 18 and out of the house. Or 21. Or 35.
