My favorite RPG is "Secret of Mana" for the SNES/Famicom. It's just brilliant. But I have to say that I have not played Chrono Trigger yet. So my meaning can change when I get a copy of the new DS release in my possession and finaly can play that great game.

NWN 1 is definitely the epitome of awesome PC RPG experience for me.
The KOTOR series doesn't disappoint; I know peeps who disliked Star Wars but loved the KOTOR games. On the consoles, I'm a 16-bit junkie so Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI/III(US) remain favorites. |

-Baldur's Gate series are probably the RPG's that got the most play from me outside of MMORPG's I've played.
-Diablo series was fun for me. Mostly because I had a lot of friends that played including my now husband/then boyfriend in college. (yeah, yeah - I know it's hack n' slash, but it does have similar characteristics) -It made fun of things, but I like to laugh at myself so the Bard's Tale on Xbox. It didn't get a lot of replay, but I had fun with it. "beer, beer, beer, tiddly, beer, beer, beer" |

Yeah, gotta give it to the Elder Scrolls folks! I love gettin into IV on and off all the time!!!
typochondriac, how is NWN? In comparison, what game would you say its closest to? I may have to look on direct2drive and see if I can get a copy of that... I hear good things but have never seen a comparison on it to other games.Kaimera- |

As for comparisons to other games, I think one of the reasons finding them is so difficult is because NWN really is a unique gaming experience. It has elements of many RPGs - familiar character classes, MMO or single-player options, a multitude of ugly baddies, etc... But, to be honest, most of the RPGs & MMORPGs we play today are more accurately compared to NWN (instead of the reverse), as it was pretty much the first of its kind. The world of NWN is wholly customizable. The game provides toolsets for building yer own world within a Forgotten Realms/D&D atmosphere. I've heard comparisons to Baldur's Gate (because BG got all its ideas from NWN), but I think D&D would be the closest comparison - the rules are exactly the same, as is the level of character freedom. There's A LOT of freedom involved as far as character evolution. More so than almost any other RPG I've come in contact with. BioWare's web site has an awesome FAQ section for new players. It gives a lot of insight into the how the game is played. http://www.bioware.com/ I hope that helps! Oh, and Three cheers for Morrowind!

You're talking about the original NWN right?
How's the second one in comparison? The original seems to be hard to find in brick-and-mortar shops. T_T |

I didn't like it myself, but I haven't had a good run with it or any of Obsidian Entertainment's games.

I found NWN2 to be far too linear for my tastes. Not only was the storyline linear, the maps themselves forced you down a path, too. There was no open exploration at all. There was a definite path and you had to follow it...so, it felt like you were being pulled along by the nose, most of the time. I never finished it.
Though, I will admit that I enjoyed the mini-game within NWN2 once you got your keep. It was kind of fun managing what you did with your newfound power and responsibility but that still didn't make up for the rest of the game, in my opinion. |
