Instrument compatibility?
If I have Guitar Hero, and I want to get Rockband, will my stuff work? Or do I need to buy Rockband guitars, drums, etc.?

Joystiq has a pretty good article which should be helpful:

Good thing somebody wrote that article, because looking at it (admittedly not a music gamer myself), it's pretty complicated.

I'm kind of surprised at how much variety there is between the different systems and the compatibility.

I'm so glad for the compatibility, not only for my wallet's sake but also because I prefer Rock Band's drums over Guitar Hero's, and vice versa for the guitars. I really like that I can mix & match and not be limited to which game series I can play.

Yeah I remember when Rock Band came out for the PS3 and the Les Paul wouldn't work on it. Was super pissed. But I know that the console companies finally laid the smackdown on EA and Activision. Cause I love music games, but I'm sure as hell not spending $400 bucks on 2 video games. Let alone living room space :P
