Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A. Chess, Monopoly, Pictionary
Q. What are the specs on your gaming rig? (Answer!)
A. P4 3GHz, 1GB RAM, Geoforce5600XT, Win XP
Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. Spreadsheets, online databases when available. Current game has no data available, calculations are guestimates.
Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. Anarchy Online's potential was and is often missed by gamers. Second Life has turned into a vast BDSM dungeon with casinos, gaming potential forgotten.
Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
A. GMT+2 Any and all hours that suit me.
Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. Lazy, greedy, ignorant players
Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. Exploits I hate. Excitement I love.
Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. When trade skill xp was nerfed in Anarchy Online due to one player's greed. You know who you are! This was a long, long time ago 8-)
A. None, currently. I miss the time when these things were possible - Aeria Games do not allow such.
Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. Occasionally, but I suspect it's the same crap as all other IT, entertainment & electronic industries.
Q. Do your quiz results on GamerDNA reflect your personality, and if not, what did it get wrong? (Answer!)
A. I didn't take that quiz yet.
Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. Stress testing with the masses (Anarchy Online). Actual bug-tracking and reporting semi-pro style in Planeshift.
Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. Absolutely. I'm married to a person I met through gaming and chatting online.
Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without? (Answer!)
A. My multimedia mobile phone.
A. Yes, and I have a microphone
Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. I read. I've become a nerd. Haha.
Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. The trend seems to be moving away from condemning this phenomena. Game industry will want a slice of this trading; I play a so-called "Item Mall" game myself, halleluia. I would prefer the Linden Labs approach where virtual money and items are exchangable to real currencies - but cannot see it happening without true electronic ID's being applied in the environment. "Anonymity" on the internet, and the "free" internet are on the way out, I believe.
Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. I will NOT let you steal my ideas! No really, a cross between Metaplace, Second Life and traditional skill-based MMO on an open source platform would probably do it for me.
Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. My achievements are not very great, and certainly only meaningful to me. I don't care so much about levels, loot, or the xp, I care about immersion and the social environment.
Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. Roleplaying is therapeutic! Seriously, as long as everyone is aware that a situation is RP, everything is great. I've taken part in both impromptu and planned RP events. Some role players can be incredibly strict in their views on how a situation can be played, and I find no joy in that. I'm for free form and creativity.
Roleplay in virtual realities such as Second Life can be dangerous and hurtful.
Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. In the late 1970's we had a TV game on a little B&W TV, rollable controllers and a white rectangle on screen. We played tennis. And basketball.
Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. They are figments of my imagination, or else, stolen from good books, movies and so on.
Q. What is a feature you would like added to GamerDNA? (Answer!)
A. I'm a new member, so cannot really comment on that yet
Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be? (Answer!)
Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. I believe in the future of open-standard projects, in operating systems as well as entertainment systems. I believe in sharing, I don't have faith in greed.
Q. What question would you add to the Attitudes system? (Answer!)
A. I don't know, since I haven't looked in the Attitudes system yet.
Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose? (Answer!)
A. I wonder if John Fowles' The Collector could be played out somehow.
Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
A. Yes, indeed. These have extended to RL encounters also. And a marriage 8-)
Q. Beside GamerDNA, what are your favorite websites? (Answer!)
A. I've become a bore and mostly read news sites and professional sites (information techonlogies).
Q. If you could cancel any online game, which would it be? (Answer!)
A. I'm not aware of any that should be cancelled.
Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. In Virtual Reality environments such as Second Life I go for a realistic version of myself, in fantasies I go for any look that pleases me at the time. The stranger, the better 8-)
I usually do choose females, though, even if playing a male character would be less troublesome.
Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. It used to feel strange, but my relationship with my game-characters has become less and less personal over the years. Playing a male means less hassles, playing a female means less aggressions - I'm generalizing in a big way here.
Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
A. Absolutely, numerous times.
Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. For social interactions and a sense of belonging. It's becoming more trivial though, as time goes on.
Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
