DESCRIPTION
The Yu-Gi-Oh! phenomenon began in 1991 as a series of comic books by Tokyo-born Kazuki Takahashi and subsequently developed into an animated television series seen throughout the world in countries like China, India, Switzerland, Australia, Mexico and more. The show first aired in the United States in September 2001. Now the collectable card role-playing game makes its debut appearance on Game Boy Color featuring elements of deck construction, collecting, and dueling.
More than 10,000 cards can be used to mix and match upper and lower body parts, and the game allows players to import cards from the official card game via a password system. Duelists begin with 8,000 life points prior to each battle. Combat is turn-based with only one monster card allowed in play per turn, though the use of magic and trap cards is unlimited. Gameplay allows you to draw a new card from your deck of 40 before each turn, unless you already have five in your hand.
Attack results are based on a combination of the attack factor versus defense factor of the monsters' cards, with consideration given to magic cards, terrain cards, and ritual cards. Unique gameplay elements include sacrificing, special powers, trapping, and fusing cards together. Terrain effects create favorable or unfavorable conditions for specific types of monsters depending on six environments: forest, wasteland, mountains, meadow, sea, and dark. Alignment (fire, water, thunder, forest, wind, and earth) also plays a part in determining superiority in relationships of summoned monsters. ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide
