“Your Shape: Fitness Evolved is a video game for the Xbox 360, which utilizes the Kinect motion camera. It is a good first step at using Kinect as an exercise tool.
It has a number of interesting workout routines, entertaining cardio boxing, yoga and several other training programs. There are also alternatives to buy extra programs online to enhance your training experience even more.
The way the game tracks and shows your movement is really cool and it has a peaceful presentation.
While other fitness games allow you plenty of room to cheat your way out of a good workout, the Kinect hardware tracks your whole body. You see a representation of your entire form right there on the screen, and the game tracks your every motion, telling you when you need to squat lower or when to raise your arms higher. It knows things, and that kind of omniscience means Your Shape should, in theory, be a terrific step in meeting your specific health needs or at maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the comfort of your (ideally spacious) living room.
The only negative aspect with this game is that you have to wear really tight clothing in order for the motion sensor to register your movements properly and I would advise having plenty of space in the area around you.”

“I used to be an athlete in school, but a number due to a number of circumstances I got horribly out of shape since then. I've finally decided to do something about it, and this game seemed like a good starting place. My muscles screamed for mercy after just the initial fitness test, which isn't really terribly taxing. Aside from some tracking issues, like it telling me to have a wider stance when it's not physically possible (how long does it think my legs are?!), it does what it claims to. I haven't gotten deep into it yet, having only had it for a few days. I don't like that it scores you based on whether you stay in rhythm with the virtual trainer, not just that you're doing the moves right. It can get finicky about what is "right", but I'd rather have something guiding me through a workout.”

“So far, I like it a lot. It does an initial fitness test before doing personal training, so it's more in tune with your individual needs. It won't let you skip ahead to harder stuff, which helps people like me who like to overdo it when first starting exercising. Plus, it's fun, easy to chart progress with, and I've lost six pounds already. The only thing I don't like is it doesn't use an avatar, so I have to actually look at the problem areas. On the plus side, I will also be able to watch these areas get better over time. ”
