DESCRIPTION

One of the more intriguing titles in the second wave of persistent-world games that began to flood the market in 2001 is World War II Online. Unlike most other massively multiplayer games, which may take place in a science fiction or fantasy setting, this game is set in the real-world historical context of the Second World War.

Although great effort was devoted to ensuring that the places, vehicles, and characters in World War II Online are as historically accurate as possible, the events that take place in this alternate reality will be decided by the players themselves. While players may take the roles of British fighter pilots or German infantry soldiers, and while they may battle one another across detailed, 3D recreations of 1940s Europe, the outcomes of these battles will ultimately be determined by the cunning, skill, and luck of hundreds and hundreds of live participants as they relive, and perhaps rewrite, history.

This Blitzkrieg title is the first in the series of releases that continue to build on Cornered Rat Software and Playnet's ongoing recreation of the 20th century's greatest conflict. “the framerate was just terrible. the bootcamp was semiplayable at about 20 frames per second but when i actually went into a battleground it went below 10... way below.”

“Ah yea the requirements don't include all the information. This is a huge game and any combination of hardware and software can kill your frame rate. Care to share your specs?”

“I dunno about the video card but here's what I can tell you. This game uses CPU immensely and cannot really make use of multi core processors. I don't know about software changes you might make (running in the background?) but some things that help. A good sound card reduces cpu loading and reducing the visible player limit can help tremendously. Most lag/stuttering comes from swapping targets in large battles as players move in and out of range. Also, always turn off radial clutter and V-sync. Clutter looks pretty but is useless (extra grass and flowers) and V-sync can have a big impact on performance with no real benefit.

The visible player limit is the big one though for most people, it is what causes me to have poor frames in town. The visible limit affects how many players your cpu is tracking within a certain radius of you, when you lower it it prioritizes those closest to you, medium settings should help also if you do not have a sound card set the sounds to a lower number and remove ambient noise. The cpu gets used up due to the true ballistic calculations the game makes involving every bullet that comes your way and because everything happens client side.

“hmm thanks alot for the advice.. i've decided to focus on other games for now tho, before jumping back into trying this.. but i do intend to, just not yet :) i'll keep all thiss in mind next time definetly tho.. i'll get that mmofps craving back soon enough i'm sure”
