The number one name in wrestling returns for another round of acrobatic entertainment in WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008. This time around players will be able to exercise more control over their favorite wrestlers thanks to the new Struggle Submission System that lets analog controls dictate how much pressure to apply on opponents. New superstar styles let gamers assign their favorite wrestling personality one of eight different fighting styles, including technical, submission, high-flyer, and dirty. Each style features its own unique set of moves, abilities, attributes, and occasionally, weapons.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 also features the new WWE 24/7 mode which combines the season and general manager modes from previous Smackdown vs. Raw games to give players more control over their favorite superstar's career. The 24/7 mode keeps track of match statistics and measures progress with regard to career goals, giving players the ability to choose numerous character development options on the way to becoming a wrestling legend. The game features a roster of more than 30 WWE wrestlers and divas, as well a handful of wrestling legends, and half-a-dozen Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) personalities. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

“From my experience, not at all. I try them each year, but can never really get into them. They seem a lot slower and the controls more tedious then games from the NES/N64 era style of wrestling. There is very few genres that make me miss the simplicity of the older style of games but this is one of them.

Also these are really more around the action outside the ring, creating a wrestler, a ring intro, the taunting, the characters, the licensing. So for someone who doesn't follow that, there is a lot to fight through.”

“Awe, sad to hear that. I used to love wrestling games back in the day. Ray Mysterio was my player of choice...nothing like a fast, high-flying, flippy dude to smack my friends up with.

Though I would think those creation extras would be kind of cool...an improvement at least. They'd have to be optional though...cause like you, I probably wouldn't be too interested in them. Much like in Soul Calibur...the defaults are just fine for me...too much work to create.”
