“@JohnyQuesticle I believe the point of pointing out costs of things, is more to state the fact they are charging for a service that doesn't cost them anything to begin with, and merely weighing the pros and cons of such a system that charges a huge amount of money for what shouldn't be an issue to begin with. I have played other games that offer server switching to any server for free, and some games that have multiple servers but you can login on any server at any time to play with any of your friends, of course the latter shares the same economy (as it should), my example being RuneScape.
Bottom-line, we are just weighing the benefits vs the cost. Yes, it is for entertainment, but we would be talking about this regardless if it was $25.00 or $200.00 a transfer, especially when the service is free for the company.
Side-Note: Racial bonuses at first weren't negligible either, the Forsaken racial to break Fear an extra time, was game changing, as was (but to a slightly less degree) the old gnome racial, which is why some people would be angry they don't get a free racial change, when blizzard changed the racials, as some people may have chosen their classes, based entirely on the racial to be practical in PvP. So if 9 of their characters on a server were one race, entirely because of the racials. The person would have to pay $225.00 to change their racials for just that one server, I know a lot of people that have one server dedicated to Alliance and one server they dedicate to their Horde characters. That is a lot of money and a lot more than a case of beer.”
