DESCRIPTION
Woody Woodpecker leads a pack of ten Walter Lantz characters in this go-kart racing title for Game Boy Color. The action takes place from an overhead perspective as players compete in four game modes: Extreme, Grand Prix, Sprint, and Time Attack. Twelve courses are equally divided into three distinct regions, including City Area, Seaside Area, and Western Area. Each course is populated with ramps, dash panels, conveyor belts, and item panels, the last of which offers a random special weapon.
Players can try to slow down the competition by using fireworks, ICBM missiles, rolling bombs, dumbbells, oil slicks, music boxes, jumps, and dashes. Health potions are also available for a temporary state of invincibility. Each go-kart is individually rated in speed, acceleration, and grip, but special parts can be won to improve defense, suspension, speed, and jump length. Parts and new karts are earned after winning cups in Extreme mode, which is a tournament spanning three to five courses.
Grand Prix uses a point-based format with each finish worth a specific number of points. The racer with the highest point total at the end of the tournament wins the event. Sprint is a single race on any of the unlocked courses, while Time Attack has players competing for fastest lap time. Ghost images of top performances can be saved and then transferred to another Game Boy Color using the Game Link. Battery backup saves records, unlocked characters, and tournament progress to one of three game files. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
