DESCRIPTION
Picking up where 2001's Return to Castle Wolfenstein left off, Wolfenstein continues the alternate-history World War II storyline starring the heroic BJ Blazkowicz. The Nazis' depraved and twisted experiments in the occult have succeeded. Using portals to a dark dimension known as the Veil, the Nazis now have the capacity to construct a world-altering weapon. As the grizzled Blazkowicz, you must go behind enemy lines to stop the Nazis' terrifying technology. Battle a ghastly mix of human soldiers and supernatural creatures while using authentic weapons of the era, or wield more fantastical inventions like tesla guns and particle cannons.
Blazkowicz can also channel four mystical powers once he acquires an amulet from the Veil. These powers will grant you the temporary ability to slow time, enhance your vision, absorb bullets, and more. Discover hidden gold, intelligence, and tomes to trade for weapon upgrades such as silencers or enhancements to your Veil powers. Wolfenstein also includes optional side missions from the multiple cities you'll visit throughout the campaign. In addition to the solo game, Wolfenstein includes class-based online action for up to 16 players. Experience earned during the multiplayer component can be used to purchase various unlockables for use in subsequent matches. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Why was this a sandbox game? The story is linear and there's nothing to do! Aside from that, there isn't much else to be happy about, either. If you're on the fence about this game, skip it....”

“This is a solid FPS that knows it is a game and plays like a game. The mechanics are mostly all in place and the FPS feel is good. The game controls just like Modern Warfare so it is easy to jump into and the levels are all well built. The veil powers are predictable, but a nice touch to the game. The only complaint is that you spend almost all of your time in veil mode viewing the world in a green cast.
While the game is solid on single player, the mechanics don't translate to the multiplayer. The controls feel way to squishy for the precision needed. The money system used to level up, while cool, just doesn't have enough variety to keep i interesting. Overall the multi-player feels a bit like a 1990's MP hangover. It is just dated.
Overall though the game is worth a look for the single player alone as it is a traditional romp through the Wolfenstein game style.”

“I received Wolfenstein this evening from my Goozex cue. To be honest I was not looking for another first person shooter to show up at my door. If anything I was eagerly awaiting Prince of Persia or...”

“After playing Wolfenstein 3D, I was all ready to jump back into an arcane themed version with detailed graphics and a storyline. What I got was a Call of Duty clone with an amulet gimmick. I'm not into the battlefield games and Call of Duty 2 was the only game I attempted to like. I'll probably finish this game up, but I can only take it in small amounts.”

“Having played just about every version of id's Wolfenstein series, the is probably the most polished and well-rounded of the lot. Much heavier on the supernatural this time which suits the story just fine. Anyone expecting any kind of realistic WW2 shooter be warned: This ain't it. What you have is an alternate history WW2 set in pretty much one town (and outlying areas) and a some hub functionality. Enemies respawn in hub areas and you can't go back into missions from the hub. You can however replay missions for collectibles/achievements from your journal. Has some mild RPG elements in the form of weapons/powers upgrades. Finding all collectibles of a given type grant upgrades to certain items (all tomes upgrade all your powers to max, for instance). Enemies are pretty stock on the hub levels and as you finish missions they get upgraded with tougher units. Very light stealth elements, but this is Wolfenstien after all, so it's not really expected to have a robust stealth system. Pretty good story for a Wolfenstien shooter. Voice acting is decent. Lots of repeated voices and sometimes annoyingly so. There are a few nods in the game to older iterations of Wolfenstein (occasionally soldiers shout "MIEN LEBEN!" when they die and occasionally the tip text when started a level says GET PSYCHED!) that make this a worthy playthrough.”

The ONLY reason it didn't get a 5 was because I haven't seen much that really sets this FPS apart from the others. In any case, it's a solid game. ”
