DESCRIPTION
Hot on the vapor trails of the hit original, Wipeout XL brings new tracks and more weapons to fans of futuristic racing. With new weapons, new racing tactics come into play, but the main goal of the game remains the same: Pilot a supersonic hoversled through a twisting, looping, gravity-challenging track, first to the finish line, to the tunes of a progressive house and electronica soundtrack.
The variety of weapons available in Wipeout XL sets it apart from its predecessor, with straight-out damage-dealers, such as rockets and missiles, defensive enhancements, including special shields and the mine-detonating Quake Disruptor, and support tools like the E-Pack recharger or the four-second Autopilot ability. Weapons are obtained and selected for use simply by steering over them, then activated with the press of a button.
The game offers four difficulty settings, which affect the top speed of the anti-grav racing ships and the number of laps that must be completed in each race. Additional tracks and features can be unlocked through accomplished play. Multiplayer racing is available between two console systems running the game, connected with a link cable. ~ T.J.
