DESCRIPTION
Sony's futuristic-racing franchise, known for high-speeds, explosive weapons, and up-tempo electronic music, takes flight for the second time on PSPs in Wipeout Pulse. There are seven single-player modes to satisfy speed-obsessed fans, including the obligatory Single Race, Tournament, and Time Trial modes. Other modes include Speed Lap, which is essentially a time trial where players have only one speed boost per lap, Eliminator, which tasks racers with literally destroying the competition, Zone, in which players try to stay alive for as long as possible, and Head-2-Head, where the player and the computer square off in a sprint to the finish line.
Traditional Wipeout gameplay returns largely unmolested, though the addition of a magnetic strip feature that allows for loops, vertical drops, and right-angle turns, as well as a few new weapons, helps provide some spice to the 12 new reversible courses. The brand new EG-X team joins seven squads that return from Wipeout Pure, and those eight crews coincide with the number of wireless online players possible in both Ad-hoc and Infrastructure modes. As with all games in the franchise, Wipeout Pulse features a throbbing techno soundtrack, with 16 licensed songs from popular artists like Aphex Twin, Mason, and Loco Dice, as well as one track from electronica pioneers Kraftwerk. Sony also promises downloadable content including new circuits, new teams, and new music. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

“The servers at work had gone down for about an hour, and nobody could work while they were down. Sooo.. A co-worker and I played some WipEout Pulse multiplayer together while we waited.”

“Pros: Thrilling gameplay, fast-paced and intense; large variety of ships and weapons to choose from; tracks in "black" and "white" so they don't become stale; campaign has a good learning curve and speeds gradually increase as you move from grid to grid; loyalty to unlock new skins, or create your own online; beautiful track artwork, and simple yet detailed ship design; loyalty gained can get the alternate skins for all of the ships; well chosen music tracks that fit the game's mood and style, but you can also add your own music.
Cons: Track design can be a bit awkward at times; complete lack of downloadable content in US; loading times are a bit long, but not enough to complain that much.”

“I've always been a WipEout series fan. 2 things I've always appreciated about the series is it's art direction, and it's music. This edition is easily one of the best in the series, only just slightly overshadowed by WipEout HD FURY, merely because of the HD visuals, and full PSN support, but I digress.. This version DOES have PSN support for online play and matchmaking, but unfortunately that's as far as the PSN support goes. (Meaning no PSN friends lists or messages, etc..) It brings with it some of the most fun-to-play game modes found in futurisitc hover-racers. PSP owners owe it to themselves to try this game out.”

“An ok game, but I found the controls too clumsy. I suppose if I devoted more time to it, I might like it more, but basically could not be bothered!”
