When the two Spirits — the Spirit of the Earth and the Spirit of the Skies — work well together, then all is right with the world. Everyone is happy and the forces of evil are sequestered. Unfortunately, this is not so. Bavmorda, the Spirit of the Skies has grown power-hungry with her fantastic magic abilities. When Bavmorda turned the Spirit of Earth, Fin Raziel, into an opossum, she thought she had nothing to worry about. She was wrong. She wasn't counting on a three-foot-tall Nelwyn as being a major threat. She didn't know about Willow Ufgood.
In Willow, you assume the role of the undersized hero in a game based upon the 1988 movie of the same name. The road to Bavmorda is long and filled with danger. From a bird's-eye view, you'll fight anything that gets in your way using a variety of swords and magic spells. You'll also meet characters from the movie such as Madmartigan, Sorsha and the Brownies as well as characters unique to the game like Po and the dragon. Often, these people and creatures will have side quests for you to fulfill in order to progress through the game.
As you defeat enemies in Willow, you will earn experience points and, once you have attained enough of them, increase experience levels. Each new experience level brings a higher degree of strength, defense, agility, hit points and magic points. Every sword and shield you collect will be more powerful than the last, also boosting your attack and defensive powers. Magical items will also be found to further help your cause.
Willow's journey ends at Nockmaar Castle, the gloomy home of Bavmorda. You must help him get there to defeat the evil queen and make the world a happy place once again. ~ Christopher Michael Baker, All Game Guide
