In this 3D real time strategy combat game, you, as Commander Morgan Bernhardt, leader of the Grudgebringer mercenary army, must lead a variety of forces (regiments) against the feared Greenskins and Undead armies. Your task is to eliminate this scourge from the human nations inhabiting the The Old World realms and bring peace at last to the world of Warhammer.
The campaign begins with control of four regiments: infantry, cavalry, archers and artillery. As the war progresses from battle to battle, you carry forward the remnants of your regiments and buy replacements or recruit new soldiers depending on your success rates — successes that earn you gold and experience. Between battles, you'll use your earnings to increase the size and might of your army. The tougher the opponents you fight, the more experience your troops earn — the more experience they earn, the tougher your army becomes.
As play progresses, two more regiments eventually become available: monsters and magic users. All six regiments have specific strengths, weaknesses, attributes and abilities. Only ten regiments can ever be used in any one battle, so picking the correct units for the job at hand is but one aspect of strategy in Warhammer: Dark Omen. Management of weaponry, use of magic, troop formation in battle, deployment of forces and positioning of regiments are others.
All regiments and units are unique in terms of type of armor available, weapons that can be used and effectiveness in various situations. There are four types of magic in Dark Omen: Bright (fire), Ice, Waaagh and Dark. Each has eight spells of varying purpose except Orc and Goblin magic (Waaagh) with only six. Other aspects of magic include shields, banners, weapons, wizard arcana and miscellaneous items such as potions and pendants.
Enter the world of Warhammer: Dark Omen at your own risk. Battle Greenskin regiments (spiders, scorpions, night goblins, fanatics, shaman and more) or the Undead (ghouls, mummies, necromancers, skeletons, vampires and the like). ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide
