DESCRIPTION
As was the original Dawn of War, the sequel was developed by the real-time strategy specialists at Relic Entertainment, and it makes use of concepts from the studios' Company of Heroes, as well as from the earlier Warhammer game. Cover is a bigger consideration than in the first game, for example, both offensively and defensively, and computer-controlled units react more quickly and intelligently, according to their current situations. In the main campaign for single players, there are four playable races, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and mandates: The gruesome, warmongering Orks, the ancient, elf-like Eldar, the genetically engineered Tyranids, and the enhanced-human, heavily armed Space Marines. Players choose planets, battles, and even mission objectives as they progress through a unique storyline for each race. On most maps, players control up to four squads, each lead by a hero character who gains experience and new abilities that carry over to future missions, and who can be revived if he falls in combat. There is no resource harvesting per se in the game, and limited reinforcements are available in the warzone, so much of the strategy is made before the combat begins, when players choose the squads and units they'll take with them into each battle. A competitive multiplayer competition is supported as well, for internet-connected gamers. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“I blew countless hours on the original Dawn of War RTS by Relic Entertainment. Here I was rather disappointed - I had imagined a continuation of what made those originals great games, with improvements such as the same gameplay engine used for Company of Heroes - one of the best RTS games I've played. This one's a decent game, but overall a bit of a disappointment.
What I liked:
- Most stories set in the Warhammer universe are entertaining and brutal. Here it's no less enjoyable.
- Graphically pleasing, and running on the Essence Engine - the very same engine that Company of Heroes (a stellar RTS) introduced.
- Boss fights within an RTS were often enjoyable - especially with the tactical nature of the game.
- Fun multiplayer modes.
What I didn't like:
- Whilst I can appreciate a tactical, squad-based approach, I feel that this only served to take away from the experiences enjoyed in the game's predecessor. MIcromanagement can be a challenge at times, but that's no reason to completely take away the player's option to give it a shot with a larger host of units.
- Very scarce in the unit department compared to previous entries.
- Never have been and never will be a fan of PC's Games for Windows Live.”

“Picked up Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II in the steam weekend sale. Glad I did! Brings me back to the days when I used to paint Warhammer stuff. Good times, they were.”

“Campaign
The game is solely based on squad control. The game makes it easy to get into with tutorials from day 1, as these only tell you what little to get by, you will have to mold your tactics through trial and error as you fight across the system. I like the RPG-like feel, and being able to choose how I want to use each squad, though some squads can only be used as is, few are versatile in both ranged and melee combat. The main story is short, if you include the extra missions you really don't have to do(unless you like to miss out on all of the epic war gear) it can become nice long game, although playing through the same maps plenty times over is a tedious task.
Co-Op
Great for when your just getting into the game. The extra guy can help with the multitask that you had to do with squads and alleviate some of the stress if it's overwhelming. Last Stand game mode is rather dull, though trying to see if you can get far with low level gear can get interesting if you have the right people with you.
Multiplayer Online
Didn't delve much into this. I played one round and it was so-so, but I think what made it better is playing with someone I knew, which made the so-so round into a good round.”
