An ancient Viking legend claims that a child will be born to save the world from evil. After hundreds of uneventful years, that time has now come. A Viking child named Brian has been dubbed the Chosen One, the person who shall embark on a perilous quest to vanquish the god known as Loki. Yet Loki wasn't going to sit idly by as the boy realized his destiny. By forcing Brian to come to his home turf, Loki would have the upper hand. So Loki kidnapped Brian's family and beckoned the young boy to try and save them.
Viking Child has you controlling Brian through forests, mountains, deserts, villages and more as you seek to find each lost family member. Yet before you can finish a level, you'll have to first locate and defeat one of Loki's vile beasts who serve as guardians of the world. The side-scrolling environments that make up Viking Child also offer multiple shops where you can purchase weapons to help in your journey. Money is collected from defeating enemies in the land, and two types of gems can also be found to add to your score: diamond and rubies.
Every shop you enter during the adventure will offer different types of equipment, which consist of the following: bombs, bolas, firesprites (flaming weapons), stuns (weakens all creatures on the screen), potions (destroys all lesser creatures on the screen), speed, cloak (temporary invisibility), glide, swords, shields, hearts and extra lives. Brian will be able to slash with his sword, jump over obstacles and cycle through special weapons. After completing a series of levels, players will receive passwords allowing them to resume progress at a later time. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
