Fans of the original Qix will most likely enjoy Ultimate Qix as the goal of the games are essentially the same —- drawing lines to fill in 75% or more of the playfield. However, purists will be turned off by the various modern upgrades, which include laser fire, bombs, alien bosses, a storyline involving rescuing survivors below the surface of a planet, and other such extravagances. The game features color and visual texture, but the graphics are ugly and the sound effects are grating. Overall, Ultimate Qix is a shade more than a quick fix of an arcade classic.
