DESCRIPTION
Ultima Online is a spin-off of the Ultima series started by Richard Garriott, aka Lord British, at a time when RPGs were merely text on a screen. This incarnation takes place entirely online and contains no stand alone version of the game. After establishing an account, which initially cost ten dollars a month, players log on and create a character. Gameplay occurs in an online world that literally takes hours to walk across.
Events continue as you log out and the game contains its own virtual economy and ecology. Resources are limited and pricing of items is controlled by a market economy ruled by supply and demand. As is standard with most RPGs, experience brings the character more power and greater abilities. Ultima Online was designed to update frequently by Origin via a system of downloadable patches. ~ Jim Muntone, All Game Guide

“The best MMO ever! They really should get some updates for that game, like creating a new enviroment so it wouldn't get old, cause I do remember having some real good time on it. 10/10 enough said”

“I'm currently working on an amazing shard and one thing I've noticed. It doesn't seem to matter how frikking awesome our place is, people still stay on their lameo high-pop shards. I can understand...”

“The one MMO I'd been aching to try. It's pretty old-school, but I like that. The depth that it allows you to go to (Particularly, as as free-shard developer. But also a player) is greater than any other game. My first experience was of a (Pretty awful) PvP no-skillcaps shard. And, yeah I enjoyed it, but the pvpers were among some of the most unpleasant I've ever encountered on an MMO before. However, having settled in a much nicer and more PVE orientated shard (For which I currently, design and develop for.) I've experienced the true unlimited nature that UO offers over any other MMO. It's mindboggling, and this freedom (Provided it's utilised by shard owners.) is what makes the game better than anything else I've ever played.
And on that note, If you're looking to experience exactly that, I'd recommend dropping by The Expanse, sometime. It truly is one of the best PvE shards you'll ever find.”

“My first MMORPG. No leveling. You have a bunch of skills that can be trained to 100.0%, but the limit is 700.0%. meaning, u can only have 7 skills at 100.0% and everything else has to be at 0%. Armor has boosts, everyone has mana, and PvE is...”

Armor has boosts, everyone has mana, and PvE is okay. Better for Roll Playing Communities and acting out characters. PvP is very fun. Many different ways to play. Things you may want in order to play this game is Ventrelo mix or team speak (or anything similar that others would have) and UOAssist (a macro program for Ultima Online)”

“This was my very first online mmorpg experience. I could tell you some stories about this game that would totally blow your mind. You had to be there to believe it. Although it started out very lagged in the beginning, it got much better. The world was full of corruption and bloody killing battles. Incredible. In my opinion they ruined the game for me when they took away the open PvP world and separated it into two worlds. They forced you to log in and refresh your house or it would fall to the ground and you would lose it. I did not like that at all. To get even with player killers and thieves, I had created an avatar which could stealth the entire fire island and sneak into players houses unseen so I could rob their asses, then they locked everything down. So much for getting even and it ruined an avatar I had spent months building to serve a real purpose. However, to this day... I'm here to tell you this was the most incredible gaming experience I can ever remember. I have stories I could spend hours telling you about. There were times i literally rolled on the floor laughing my ass off... to walking away from the keyboard with my hands shaking... and that's the truth. Getting a party of players together was tough. When you died in this game, it truly meant something because players would take all your stuff... I mean it... really... you lost it all. The games of today are wimpy baby stuff in comparison. The only recourse was to get the bastard later if you could round up a bunch of people or hire a player killer to bring back his head and some loot. Players literally had verbal arguments in this game because you could talk to the opposing members (not like it is today where you can only do an emote). When I left this game... I had to change my gaming avatar name... that's how serious this game got. ”
