DESCRIPTION

Twisted Metal: Black is a return to the roots of the Twisted Metal series, as members of the original development team behind the first two games has been brought back to craft this first entry on the PlayStation 2. The game is considerably darker than the previous four Twisted Metal games, earning it an "M" rating from the ESRB.

Calypso is back again holding his Twisted Metal tournament of car combat. As before, the winner of the tournament gets a wish of their choice to be granted by Calypso. There are a total of 15 playable characters, each varying in vehicle type, driver, speed, armor, special weapon, and control. There are new characters as well as returning ones, including Junkyard Dog, Brimstone, Outlaw, Mr. Grimm, Roadkill, Crazy 8, Spectre, Dollface, Shadow, and Sweet Tooth.

Players engage in vehicular combat in a variety of arenas, including downtown areas, rooftop skyscraper battles, suburban neighborhoods, prison boats, snow covered roads, highways, freeways, and drive-in movie theaters. There are also hidden arenas and characters that are unlocked by exploring and discovering hidden areas of many of the battlegrounds.

Drivers compete in a last-man standing game that pits you against eight other opponents. The last person surviving wins the level and progresses onto the next stage (each character has eight levels). Weapons include character-specific special weapons, missiles, homing missiles, exploding gas cans, and environmental attacks triggered by the player. Progressing through levels not only gets you closer to the end of the game, but also unlocks CGI Movies that explain characters' pasts in greater detail. The standard camera view is placed behind the car, but can be altered by pressing the select button.

Twisted Metal: Black also includes four-player simultaneous play via a split-screen, as well as cooperative modes and a last-man standing mode. ~ J.C. Barnes, All Game Guide

“Twisted Metal looks fun. I'm on the fence for inFamous 2 the 1st one was OK. Killzone and Ghost Recon looked cool. Of course I'm getting Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood for the PS3. Still trying to think of which system to get Deus Ex for, because that game is a must own for me.

I thought Nintendo and Sony had pretty good shows but yeah Nintendo took E3.

Now I have to wait until September to see the TGS. Since I want more RPGs.”

“I hope they do. I would love another Suikoden game. I've heard rumors from bloggers, and fans of a Suikoden game maybe being shown at E3, or TGS.

Of course we didn't see or here anything from E3. So I hope to hear something (any) from TGS. Of course from the Konami forums I heard that some people think Konami put the series on hold because the fifth one didn't sell to well.

I hope it's all just internet rumors and we get one. I think it's a fun series.

Also I want the last .hack game LINK but that comes out for the PSP.”

“@DarthOdium Suikoden V came out at the end of the PS2's run though didn't it? I mean they still sell the PS2 but they already had PS3 at the time, right. I've never played it, haven't even seen it for rent anywhere so apart from knowing it exists, I have no idea what it is like. ”

“@rawkr Well what the problem is games 4 and 5 did not sell well in Japan. Then of course, when a JRPG comes to America we can expect it to do average unless its a AAA title like Final Fantasy or if word of mouth makes the game grow like Persona 3.

So when V came out in 2006 yes, it was near the end of the PS2 but it recieved average reviews and if we know our gamer idiots. If a review isn't 9 out of 10 or 10 out of 10 noone will buy it.

I thought V was a fun game but people will argue that load times, and slow gameplay killed the last game. So when people started blogging they went ape with the series.

Lots of people love and hate the series. The fans of the series wants a new one. While others think it's over. From what I've read Konami wants to make a new one but are concerned that it won't sell well.

So for now I hope to hear good news from TGS.

Oh and before I forget they did release a Suikoden on the DS called Suikoden Tierkreis in 2009. It received a 8.8 out of 10 from IGN and other reviews praised it as well. But I think only the die hard fans bought it. I passed on the game when it came out since I bought Devil Survivor and Class of Heroes around that time.”

“Get Quantic Dream to create a new Suikoden? The game would look awesome. I still would recommend playing the fifth game. In fact I would recommend every game expect 4. 4 was bad and if you can find it get 2. 2 is still rated as the best of the series.”

It's being published by Square-Enix but the original team that did the 1st two Eidos is working on it. So I very high hope it lives up to what the first two games where. Because I love Deus Ex.”

“Is it me, or does the art direction in Human Revolution resemble the work of Akihiko Yoshida (FFXII, Vagrant Story)? One character I saw in a preview in GameInformer resembled a cross between Ashley Riot and Basch.”

“@mykalgaidin Hmm now that you mention it Deus does look like a cleaner Vagrant Story. Which is all good with me. I just hope I see all the story and gameplay mechanics that made me fall in love with the 1st 2 in this one. Of course with some new stuff and touch ups. It's been a long time since a Deus Ex game. So I can't wait to see more.”

“I had so much fun with this game. They've definitely revamped the gameplay. Pace feels faster, more customization, helicopter is awesome, launching patients strapped to gurneys strapped to rockets is even more awesome, and the huge team multiplayer was hectic but felt somewhat class based. I love it.

After years of me going on the record as saying that Sony hasn't had anything going for it in the home market, I can honestly say that this looks like the year of the PS3. I saw so much at E3 that has me convinced.”

“I played 1-4 on the PS1. Never bought a PS2 because the PS1 couldn't compare to the N64, and the only games I liked on it were Spyro, Twisted Metal, and Megaman Legends. ”

“@bettadud In-game yes, but the cinematic potential was greater on PS1. Also, really? Ps1 was inferior to n64 so you didnt get a PS2? But the PS2 was clearly on par and in some ways better than GC and Dreamcast. I have a hard time following that logic, but I saved up and got both. If you didn't get a PS2, you missed out on a LOT of great titles.”

“@bettadud And to be fair, I was also a N64 apologist to the Nth degree. I defended titles that were indefensible, like Blast Corps, but after a while my friends showed me all of these really great titles on PS1 that converted me. I still played both, but I guess it boils down to your fav genres are.”

“50-60 bucks, not sure if they still sell the new ones. Last I checked those were under a hundred bucks, but this was a while ago.”
