A physically exhausting game that invented a new genre, Track & Field features an original control technique in which players push two buttons in an alternating fashion as fast as humanly possible. The faster the buttons are pushed, the more quickly the onscreen characters move as they perform six classic Olympic events: 100-Meter Dash, Long Jump, Javelin, 110-Meter Hurdles, Hammer Throw and High Jump. Pressing another button enables contestants to jump or set an angle, while releasing the button is for jumping, or for throwing the javelin or the hammer. In addition to challenging events and pure originality, Track & Field offers nice (if cartoonish) graphics, rich colors, smooth animation and a terrific rendition of the theme from Chariots of Fire. Later models of Track & Field replace the dual buttons with a trackball. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
