DESCRIPTION
Tobal No. 1 is Square's first 3D Fighting project and the project has been nothing but a success. The team behind Tobal No. 1 is no one but Dreamfactory a team made up of recruited members of both the Virtua Fighter and Tekken teams.
Tobal No. 1 elaborates on the idea of a "3D Fighting" title allowing players to literally run rings around their opponent. With this intuitive control, Tobal No. 1 allows greater movability and the grapple system adds another dimension to gameplay with the ability to hold and throw opponents in a more realistic fashion.
Tobal No. 1 also uses flat shaded high-res graphics running at 60 frames per second to great effect by producing the smoothest and one of the most detail fighters to date. The addition of a quest RPG-like mode allows greater diversity where you fight your way through dungeons to earn new characters. Eight fighters are also selectable from the start and include cocky Chunji, thunder thighed Mary, quick Epon, and Link-impersonator Gren. The bosses include Mufu a tall Gumby-looking stick guy and Nork a character whose head is only half in screen and is almost the size of an elephant. ~ Brad Penniment, All Game Guide
