DESCRIPTION
Taking place ten years after the events of the 2007 game Dawn of Magic, Time of Shadows offers players more Diablo-esque hack-and-slash action as the minions of the previously immortal Modo return to avenge his death. Sword-wielding gamers can use their skills in magic to combine more than 100 different spells as they battle hideous monsters through 12 different schools of magic, with each school culminating in an intense boss battle. Players earn loot and experience points as they fight, unlocking a variety of customization options for each available character. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

“Time of Shadows is a Diablo-esque top down hack n slash RPG. A little more interactive than the great Diablo, it boasts numerous side quests and numerous interactive NPCs.
The graphics in the game are pretty solid, with no real errors in display, but nothing really eye popping. Just good, solid stock.
Background audio isn't a distraction during the game, fits the mood of the game, and is generally well done.
AI. This is a killer for many games. And ToS is no exception. The AI is, to put it mildly, retarded. There are many times where I could walk up to an enemy and bash it to death without it moving. And the fast respawns guarantee many hours of pulling your hair as you try to manage your inventory or apply stat points and a respawning enemy decides you are lunch.
On a good note, they did something very interesting... when you learn new spells, your body goes through physical changes. Tails, wings, horns, etc depending on what circle of magic you got a spell in. As an example, learning water magic can give you Poseidon's Tail. Each of these mutations provides some benefit or trade off, making your choices of what magics to learn even more important.
The magic system is solid. You learn magic through scrolls and skill points combined. Spells have good animation and work as intended. Miscellaneous skills are learned through skill point assignment alone.
Items seem a little bit odd. Stat requirements aren't fixed based on quality, but are random on pickup or modified on enchantment or rune modification. I can pick up two identical pairs of gloves, and one will have no stat requirements while the other one does. I can add runes and enchantments that could significantly increase the requirements of the item as well.
Overall it's a reasonably fun game for a Diablo clone, but it has a couple of major drawbacks that take away from that fun.”
