The power of the mind is the greatest power of all — especially for a psychic like Neku Sakuraba. Yet by that same truth, a lack of knowledge and understanding can pose great danger. In The World Ends with You, a modern-themed console-style role-playing game from the makers of the latter-day Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games, players take the role of the 15-year old Neku, who wakes suddenly to find himself in a busy Tokyo mall. Before he has a chance to even get his bearings, he receives a cryptic text message threatening his demise if he does not complete a mysterious mission. Designed specifically for the DS handheld, The World Ends With You features a stylus-driven interface that allows players to control two characters simultaneously in battle. Combat is waged with psychic powers, and collectable pins can be equipped to augment and add to the abilities of Neku and the allies he finds as he progresses in his given task. Characters can be customized with modern, music-inspired fashions, such as hip-hop or electronica, to match the game's original soundtrack. “Amazing game, don't let it deter you he comes around and fast... This game kept me guessing til the very end and the frantic fun doesn't wear off. Have fun with it! I played it with speakers, the music selection was very diverse and neat.”

“I disagree, that fits Squall to a tea. It wasn't until the end he realized he couldn't do everything by himself.

I liked his style though, black and white, tough as nails, cold as ice.

Neku is a bit different, he's just miserable and hates until he is forced to live differently.”

And you really can't blame him for thinking that everyone around him were unnecessary. Every party member other than Quistis was a total airhead!”

“The entire party also had memory problems and disorders due to GF usage. Thus why they were all raised together and never knew each other.

Also the need of Irvine was explained. It's a business proposition that his job required of him. Basically he was forced, and I still remember him babying Irvine just like the rest, in the end Squall tried to comfort him to get him to do his job...

But nothing Squall did was from his own heart or feelings. Just a requirement he needed to do. His 1 dimensional character didn't really break until the end of disc 3, when Rinoa makes the promise with him that he shunned off in the wrecked orphanage.

P.S. Irvine was correct, hahaha, good stuff.”

“Neku does start off as a typical emo one dimensional turd, but the development on his character is handled very well. He grows throughout the course of the game, something that is unfortunately quite rare in videogame storytelling.

Here's a perfect example of a one-dimensional character: Kratos. His only emotion is anger. He starts out angry, and remains angry through every game. Even in Chains of Olympus, during what is the most heart-rending scene in the whole series, Kratos wears his scowl prominently and speaks in his usual gruff "I'm two seconds from turning you into a damp stain on the wall" angry voice, which is also a bit shouty.

Neku, on the other hand, shows genuine growth even towards the end of the first day. The sad thing is, TWEWY will likely never see a sequel, while God of War will continue until two days after the Last Trump.

Both are good games, but for very different reasons.”

“TWEWY got mad respect as one of the most original titles in gaming for 2008. They have to make a sequel, that game took the world by storm. I gotta find that article now too... If I can.

Also didn't someone say GoW 3 was going to be the last one cause they're running out of material?

Then again, they always say that so you'll buy it right?”
