DESCRIPTION
The third game in the legendary Zelda series (after The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time for any console. The storyline, which involves rescuing Princess Zelda and seven other maidens (each locked in a away in a different dungeon), is engrossing, the Light and Dark Worlds (which you can teleport between using a Magic Mirror) are filled with secrets, traps and puzzles, the battle system is tight, and the interfacing and mapping system is convenient and easy to use. Link begins the game empty handed but will soon find a sword and shield and will eventually discover numerous other items, including many new to the series, such as the Pegasus Boots, the aforementioned mirror, and a grappling hook. Longtime Nintendo composer Koji Kondo (Super Mario World) provides the musical score (meaning that it's excellent, of course), and the graphics and sounds show excellent attention to detail. All in all, this is a must-own title and a wonderful return to (and upgrading of) the many things that made the original The Legend of Zelda such a brilliant success. After the somewhat disappointing (but still solid) Zelda II, this is a good (make that great) thing. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide

“Today was a short gameplay day. All I did was get the shovel, flute, and a few heart pieces.”

“Molderm was being such a douche to me. I got the moon pearl, rocked his face, "tried" to save Zelda, went to dark world, did the majourity of the Palace of Darkness up to the boss battle.”

“Completely forgot the majourity of this game. I only got as far as the second dungeon before having to do other things.”

“I was so young when I played this, but this game impacted how games were made and played from the time it was released and onwards. It's one of the longest and most diverse Zelda's in the entire franchise... Not to mention every Zelda game made beyond this title is shockingly like this game, despite being completely 3-D nowadays.
What sets this game apart? The insane amount of items (both required and secret) that can be used to solve many puzzles throughout the entire land. The size of the world and the fact that there is two worlds (light and dark) which means even though you thought it was big, it's now twice as big... If that makes sense. The exploration and all the things you can find by just doing simple things. Like throwing powder on a statue, or throwing your sword in a pond... Stabbing the top of a turtle shaped rock. Crazy all the things you could do for it's time. Even if it was a linear game, it had a very open almost sand box type of game play as well.
It's been remade countless times. Download it on Wii, buy it for GBA, emulate it... Who cares, but whatever you do, DO NOT miss this game. It's one of the finest of it's kind.

“I'll keep this one short:
I loved Link's Awakening for a long time, started A Link to the Past twice in the, uh, past, and finally made it through. Despite the world switching, which lends some depth to this title, I prefer the Game Boy installment. It featured a shipwrecked hero stranding on an island that turned out to be - sixteen year-old spoiler ahead - the dream of giant fish. This one has an evil sorcerer and a kidnapped princess and little else. Also Koholint has beaches and seashells and stuff.”
