DESCRIPTION
Based on the Top Cow comic, The Darkness is a mature, Mafioso adventure, set in modern times but steeled by ancient magic. Players take the leading role of mob hit man Jackie Estacado, who acquires supernatural powers known as "The Darkness" as he reaches his 21st birthday. Gameplay involves exploration and combat through interactive, destructible New York City environments. The plotline is balanced on conflicts between Jackie's ambitions and his family's underworld entrenchment, and on the conflicts between Jackie's own human personality and that of his supernatural side. The Darkness was developed by Sweden's Starbreeze Studios, which gained much positive recognition for its 2004 Xbox and PC game, The Chronicles of Riddick. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

- The story. Incredible from start-finish, supported both audibly and visually. Very nice adaptation of the comic book into one, cinematic gameplay experience. I like how the story was told, and how it ends, and you realise why it's being recounted.
- In terms of first-person shooters... This one's quite different. The Darkness adds to the experience.
- Being the nightmare. Plenty of horror games let you run in fear from something horrific. Very few let you actually play as the horror.
- Visually pleasing for the most part; especially the blood...
What I didn't like:
- Distinct lack of anti-aliasing. I have to give it somewhat of a break here, as apart from this it's a pretty good-looking game, and whilst it wasn't a launch title, it was still very early in the development cycle.
- Purple wisps / change of colouring when the Darkness was equipped was supposed to make me feel like the darkness was my friend, but I think it ultimately detracted from the visual feel of the game.”

“I like this game, but lord, travel is a PITA. Finding most destinations in the city is a matter of going into the right zone and humping doors until you find one that opens. I imagine they were...”

“Witnessed the first time Jackie died. D: I cried a little, even though I accidentally spoiled the actual event for myself accidentally, so I knew it was coming...”

“First got sick from the horrible console controls then, after some tweaking, I started to like the game. Looks really good from the little I've seen of it.”
