DESCRIPTION
The man called "Lord British," best known for designing the formative Ultima series of computer role-playing games and creating Origin Systems, lends his expertise to this persistent world RPG set in the distant future. Players will become part of a human renegade force sent to repel the advances of a crustacean-like alien race known as "The Bane." Combat in Tabula Rasa primarily involves firing guns while crouching and using cover in real time. Instead of choosing a specific character class at the onset, players will instead follow branching career paths while earning experience from missions benefiting the resistance movement. All characters begin military life as a lowly recruit, eventually deciding on specialization trees promoting them to soldiers, commandos, sappers, rangers, and more.
Each role offers new weapon, tool, or armor proficiencies, allowing players to expand their offensive and defensive techniques against enemies. Characters can also acquire mystical runes called Logos, which tap into the universe's energy and imbue them with feats of power, similar to magic in fantasy games. The gameplay initially takes place on two alien planets: the forest-covered Foreas and the volcanic Arieki, each home to multiple regions or zones to explore, including instanced areas. Tabula Rasa's development team opted for a simplified user-interface designed to quickly get players involved in the ongoing conflict without having to spend an inordinate amount of time learning how to control their characters. Cooperative play with other characters is encouraged and enhanced with the game's built-in voice chatting functions. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“It was pretty good the little I got to play before it shut down. Unfortunately I didn't get very far, so a proper review isn't possible.”

“Travesty is the only word I can think of to describe what happened to this game. Play NC allowed too many people into the beta that didn't test the game and it was unbalanced due to that. Unfortunately all support for this game was pulled. :(”

“I adored Tabula Rasa's unique blend of generic MMO gameplay with stellar third-person-shooter action. It was a level grind, to be sure, but you didn't mind, because the combat itself was so fun and intuitive. Will always have a place in my heart.”

“Everybody seems to be playing one MMO or another and then, there's blood-chilling stories about breaking families, hikikomori individuals and other anti-social misbehaviors. I honestly tried several...”

“Good idea but unfinished and boring. Lacked content. All the problems with the game can be traced to the fact that Richard Garriot was off screwing around in space when he was supposed to be working on the game. Hes a liar and thief if you ask me.”

“TR is no more but still fondly remembered - even though I did drop it for various reasons previously discussed. It was a good game that could have been so much more.”

“Great game, had its problems though. Wish it was still around, sad to see it close like that. The story needed some work, but the game play was good. Needed a solid PVP element though that fitted into the story. Think it took to long to get it fixed ”

“I liked this game. It had a great sci-fi setting and had some interesting new game mechanics. I enjoyed the fast paced FPS like action. What I did not like was that the classes was to similar in the beginning of you career. A shame it had to close.”

“Thanks to a rocky launch, and piss poor advertising TR was a potentially great game that was killed before her time. Unfortunately people weren't ready for a hybrid MMO/FPS game.”
