It seemed like routine business for corporate lawyer Kate Walker; her company was purchasing an old toy factory and had sent her to Europe to sign some paperwork and finalize the deal. The quaint French mountain village was charming, as far as she knew, but her main goal was to get back home to her real life in the real world — New York City.

As she moves through the story, she also moves from the role of a materialistic executive to that of a romantic dreamer.
