In Infocom's Suspended, the player makes the transition from outwitting artificial intelligence to being artificial intelligence. In this futuristic all-text adventure, the player's character is rooted to his or her (Suspended is noteworthy for being one of the first such adventure games to allow the player to specify their gender) spot, held in suspended animation. Players accomplish tasks by guiding a half dozen robots — each with its own unique quirks, abilities and perceptions — to act as the player's eyes, ears and hands. Success depends on getting into how each robot works and thinks to control them properly.

And where is the player's character during all this? Locked in suspended animation in an underground cryogenic storage facility with several other frozen individuals who won't remain frozen — or alive — much longer if the robots can't be directed by remote control to repair damage caused by an earthquake. Suspended is one of Infocom's daunting "Expert Level" games, and that description isn't just there for marketing purposes — this is one of the company's toughest text quests, but story-wise, also one of the most intriguing. ~ Earl Green, All Game Guide
