“Disappointing compared to the original; the game has headed in a more casual direction, and whilst it's still a decent game, I feel the original is still the better of the two.
What I liked:
- Graphically pleasing; this wasn't an issue with the first, so it's somewhat expected of the sequel.
- Some interesting new units, as well as rehashed old ones.
- I rather liked the soundtrack as well as the cinematics - things got even more 'epic'.
What I didn't like:
- Greatly simplified gameplay; the interesting resource upkeep system of the original has been completely removed, there are far less units, and there are no longer 'tech' levels; everything is based on a skill tree and a new 'research' resource.
- Overall a very simplified approach compared to the large-scale macro and micromanagement of the first game. The removal of tech levels and a great many units is more of a downgrade than anything else.”
